About the artist
Michelle Lavallee is the owner, designer and photographer of Live Free Fibers. Much of the inspiration behind Michelle's art comes from learning how to macrame while traveling in Costa Rica over 10 years ago. She was taught by traveling artisans from Panama. Since then, her time traveling and living abroad in Central America and Africa have continued to inspire and shape her work. Varying from earthy to bright tones, intricate patterns and natural textures and influence are evident in her work. Michelle's expertise and versatility in the craft along with the experiences that influence it, add a unique voice to her work that truly stands out. Her work has even been featured on multiple macrame feature Instagram pages and a juried gallery show! Whether it's in her jewelry or wall art, your new piece reflects a small part of the world she has seen and was handmade with love. All of her wall hangings and plant hangers are made with recycled cotton from the garment industry and packaged with all recycled and eco friendly materials.
While running her business, Michelle's other passion is working in human services. She has held various positions in child welfare and currently serves homeless former foster youth in a rapid re-housing program. Fiber arts and creating for others has been a vital part of keeping her centered and grounded through her career. Michelle currently lives in RI with her beagle, Maribel who returned with her from Guatemala! When she gets the opportunity, she still loves to travel. Below are some photos of her travels to explore and inspire. Thank you for being here!
